About Shockwave Academy
Here’s how our platform can help you become a more effective Shockwave practitioner:
Providing Independent Resources
Shockwave Academy gives you access to premium clinical information and courses created and led by industry experts with a full range of demonstrations, in-depth case studies, research and news.
Redefining Clinical Reasoning
Optimising your clinical practice is not all about the machine. It is a matter of redefining your clinical reasoning and equipping you with the knowledge to understand which modality is best suited for each clinical situation.
Furthering Your Understanding
This includes understanding how to assess and monitor clinical progress; the importance of specific tailored rehabilitation; and then thinking of how to incorporate the pain modulating & regenerative properties of Shockwave as appropriate.
About The Founder
John founded Shockwave Academy in order to help steer other health professionals in the right direction and create a community of support, learning and healthy debate.
Since qualifying as a physiotherapist in Melbourne in 1987, John has spent the last 35 years building a comprehensive catalogue of diverse experience, including working within the world of elite sport before successfully founding his own practice in 1999.
His elite sports portfolio also includes working with Premier League football clubs, Rugby Superleague and the British Orienteering squad.
Currently, John continues to treat many top-level rock climbers, runners and swimmers, and has also contributed to injury management articles in international climbing publications. John’s own practice also attracts a large portion of non-sporting ‘general practice’ clientele, giving him exposure to diverse issues affecting bodies of all ages, shapes and sizes.

Why Shockwave?
In 2016, he introduced Ultrasound Scanning to his practice, completing the gold standard UK qualification of an MSK PGC in 2018. His shockwave journey started in 2015 with the purchase of his first radial device. He found that with the specificity of his US skills, his practice was attracting a more complex injury mix, leading him to introduce Focused Shockwave in 2018
This has totally transformed his efficacy in-clinic by being able to offer not only this specific diagnostic ability, but also a clinically useful treatment modality to meet the evolution of in-clinic demands.
He is a vocal and passionate advocate of combining these 2 modalities, and it is this dual practice that he will be sharing with the wider Shockwave community in a series of webinars and workshops.
